The Sands of Time, Part II

Katie brushed a strand of unruly copper hair out of her eyes with an annoyed flick and continued to tap on the keyboard of her tablet as she sat at the kitchen counter. The back door opened behind her, and she quickly looked back to see her brother and his friends begin storming in, all shouting and jumping around as only teenagers can. Her brother, Mike jostled her arm a bit and she looked up, even more annoyed. She glared at him and said. "What?" He reached over and shut off her tablet, to which she sighed and turned to face him, and said in an exasperated tone, "What?!"

Mike grinned annoyingly and sat next to her, "So who is it? Who am I taking a bat to?"

She gave him a bewildered stare, "What?"
"Who am I hurting?"
"Nobody, Don't know what you're talking about."
"Liar. You're 17 and you went to prom last night, and you're here at home, at noon."
"So? not every guy is as bad as you are!"
"Defensive now? So what happened with Jim?"

Katie sighed and put her face in her hands. "Nothing, don't worry about it."
"I will worry about it."
"Don't."
Tell me."
"Fine." She rolled her eyes. "But you have to promise you won't do anything!"

The door of the cell opened and the blue clad officer indicated without speaking for him to follow. The officer lead him out to his father and his sister. He sighed and looked at them, but his eyes showed no repentance. His father looked him over, "You broke his nose, and his two front teeth Michael."
Mike shrugged, "He deserved it." Katie smiled slightly, wrapped Mike in a hug, "You're an ass." Then whispers in his ear, "But thank you."
